At the recent Neuroinclusive Design Roundtable, hosted by SOM’s Equity Action Committee (EAC), we presented our research and lessons learned from our work in this emerging field. We thank Deirdre Spahr and Rowan Georges from SOM for organizing and inviting us to this event. Kristin Reddick, Senior Design Research Consultant at Haworth, and Jennifer Finley, Senior Associate Principal at SOM, also participated in the conversation.
The roundtable explored current research and design interventions that support the well-being of autistic people with low support needs in everyday settings. Our discussion centered on the lived experiences of autistic self-advocates, the work of neuroinclusivity design researchers, and the application of responsive, autism-informed design in practice. Hosted by SOM's Equity Action Committee, their ongoing Equity Roundtable series provides a valuable platform for open discussion on incorporating greater equity into our work.

The Equity Action Committee at SOM plays an important role in integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into the firm’s culture and operations. We presented at SOM's Equity Action Committee to contribute to this mission by sharing how neuroinclusive experimental and research-based design aligns with broader equity goals. The committee’s work ensures that design decisions reflect the needs of diverse users and promote fairness in access and experience.
